Mercedes-Benz Extended Warranty
The Mercedes-Benz Extended Limited Warranty is available with terms of up to three years or 100,000 miles. The Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) Extended Limited Warranty offers terms up to two years with unlimited mileage. These plans extend bumper-to-bumper limited warranty coverage, and they kick in as soon as your vehicle’s New Limited Warranty or CPO Limited Warranty expires. Coverage includes parts and repairs for your vehicle’s essential powertrain components plus extra coverages in electrical, climate control and other systems.

This extended coverage plan for new vehicles covers stated components in your vehicle’s powertrain, suspension, brakes, select electrical systems, audio and navigation systems, convertible or retractable top systems and select other components. |

What’s Not Covered by the Mercedes-Benz Extended Warranty?
Although a Mercedes extended warranty provides very comprehensive coverage for material or workmanship issues, the coverage does have several exclusions. For starters, the vehicle’s battery, tires, wear-and-tear parts, and outside-influenced damages are not covered.
The plan also states that it will not cover any failures with materials or workmanship caused by improper maintenance or the installation of non-Mercedes parts. Finally, the Mercedes extended warranty will not cover any vehicles used for commercial or business purposes, such as ridesharing.
Mercedes-Benz Extended Warranty Benefits
Like most extended coverage programs, Mercedes-Benz extended warranty coverage for new and CPO vehicles includes 24-hour emergency roadside assistance. With this coverage, you’ll have extra peace of mind with on-call assistance including:
- Fuel delivery
- Battery jumpstart
- Tire inflation (only available for vehicles equipped with Tirefit kit)
- Spare tire changing
One service missing from Mercedes extended coverage is towing. Many manufacturers and third-party extended warranty companies offer roadside assistance that includes towing services, though this assistance may be subject to plan maximums or other limitations.
Select Mercedes-Benz extended warranty plans, including some extended CPO coverage, may include trip interruption coverage and loaner cars during covered repairs. Offers vary by dealership.

New Mercedes owners can purchase Premier Prepaid Maintenance at any time prior to the vehicle’s first service date or 10,000 miles. CPO Mercedes owners can purchase coverage after the initial maintenance service for vehicles up to eight model years or newer with up to 80,000 miles.

First Class Paintless Dent Repair helps cover the cost of repairs for minor dents and dings. First Class Lease Protection can protect you from unexpected charges at lease-end if your vehicle has minor dents, scratches, or other types of damage that go beyond normal wear and use. You’ll be covered for items like a missing key fob, worn or damaged leather, paint scratches, bumper scuffs, dents and dings, and windshield damage.
Interior and Exterior Protection
First Class Interior and Exterior Protection includes a DuPont protective coating that safeguards your vehicle’s leather, carpet, fabric, and paint.
Mercedes-Benz Extended Warranty vs. Factory Warranty
Factory warranties are a type of coverage included in the purchase of a new or certified pre-owned vehicle. Extended manufacturer warranties are an optional protection and can be purchased before the limited factory warranty expires.
Mercedes-Benz New Car Warranty
All new Mercedes-Benz vehicles are covered by the New Vehicle Limited Mercedes Warranty. The manufacturer’s warranty covers defects in material or workmanship for four years or 50,000 miles. If you experience any problems during this time, simply take your vehicle to an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership and the new vehicle warranty will cover many repairs and services.
Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned Warranty
If you purchase a certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicle, Mercedes includes a CPO factory warranty of 12 months/unlimited miles. This plan extends New Vehicle Limited coverage and includes the same protections.
Just like with the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, you take your certified pre-owned vehicle to any authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership when you experience a parts failure.

Should You Buy a Mercedes-Benz Extended Warranty?
Mercedes-Benz unfortunately has a reputation for being less reliable than many other automakers. Based on the automaker’s performance in industry-standard reliability studies, we think extended warranty coverage is an excellent choice for Mercedes-Benz owners.
Reliability of Mercedes-Benz Vehicles
Well-known industry resources like J.D. Power and RepairPal rate the reliability of certain vehicle brands. The J.D. Power 2024 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study℠ ranks vehicles based on the number of reported problems per 100 vehicles of a recent model year. RepairPal ranks vehicles based on the estimated cost, frequency, and severity of typical repairs. We go over how each entity ranked Mercedes-Benz vehicles below.
J.D. Power Reliability Ratings
While some Mercedes vehicles are known for better reliability than others, the brand has low reliability scores from the J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study (21st out of 29 ranked brands).
This rating means Mercedes owners are more likely than drivers of other brands to encounter problems or malfunctions during the lifetime of their vehicle. The increased frequency of needed repairs and services also makes a strong case for buying extended warranty coverage, either directly from the manufacturer or from a flexible third-party provider.
RepairPal Reliability Ratings
Echoing the company’s J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability score, RepairPal gives Mercedes vehicles an average reliability rating of just 3.0 out of a possible 5.0 stars, ranking it 27th out of 32 ranked auto brands.

Mercedes-Benz Extended Warranty vs. a Third-Party Warranty
Mercedes-Benz vehicles have low dependability scores, which means an extended warranty is a smart way to protect your budget as an owner. While Mercedes does offer a comprehensive extended warranty program, the company’s coverage terms are short. Mercedes-Benz owners may fight comprehensive coverage with longer terms from a third-party warranty provider.
See the benefits and drawbacks of each type of provider below:
Pros of Mercedes-Benz Extended Warranty
- Extended warranty coverage from Mercedes-Benz offers bumper-to-bumper protection.
- Contract benefits include roadside assistance.
- Plans carry no deductible for covered services.
Cons of Mercedes-Benz Extended Warranty
- Repair service is limited to just over 350 Mercedes-Benz repair facilities nationwide
- Contracts may be more expensive than some third-party providers.
Pros of Third-Party Warranty
- Third-party providers offer a wide range of coverage options, from powertrain to exclusionary contracts which function like bumper-to-bumper warranties.
- Contract benefits can include roadside assistance, trip interruption coverage, rental car reimbursement, and sometimes even maintenance services.
- You can customize most third-party coverage options with your choice of deductible.
- Coverage is honored at any ASE-certified repair facility.
Cons of Third-Party Warranty
- Repair services may not use genuine OEM parts.

Mercedes-Benz Extended Warranty: Bottom Line
In this article, we researched the Mercedes-Benz extended warranty and factory warranty. Having a Mercedes can be expensive to maintain and repair, which is why a warranty can be useful. Although Mercedes offers comprehensive coverage, our team has found that third-party warranty providers like Endurance often offer more plan choices and better prices.
Mercedes-Benz Extended Warranty: FAQ
Below are frequently asked questions about the Mercedes-Benz extended warranty:
Is a Mercedes extended warranty worth it?
An extended warranty for any Mercedes vehicle can help offset the frequency and cost of needed repairs. As a luxury import brand, Mercedes has significantly high repair costs in the U.S. Its vehicles also have a high number of reported issues as the years go by, meaning the need for an extended warranty could be worth it for those who don’t wish to pay for those hefty repairs out of pocket.
Can I buy a Mercedes-Benz extended warranty after purchasing?
You are able to buy a warranty from the automaker after purchase, but it must be before the Mercedes factory warranty expires. However, you can still get an extended warranty for your Mercedes-Benz from an independent warranty company like Endurance or Carchex at any point in time (within that company’s term limits).
What does the Mercedes-Benz extended warranty cover?
The extended warranty from Mercedes extends the comprehensive coverage from the factory warranty for between one to three years. This covers repairs on anything from the powertrain to the stereo systems if you experience a mechanical breakdown. However, items like brakes or any other wear-and-tear items are not covered.
What is the pricing of the Mercedes-Benz extended warranty?
We found the total price for the Mercedes extended warranty to be around $4,411 on average. However, the cost of a plan will depend on the dealership you go to and the model of your vehicle.
