Infiniti is Nissan’s luxury offshoot, known for offering upscale vehicles for over 30 years. You can get an Infiniti Elite Extended Protection Plan to help cover repairs for up to eight years or 120,000 miles, or you can get a third-party plan for longer coverage. In this article, we’ll compare Infiniti’s plan to the best extended car warranty companies to help you decide if it’s worth it.

Infiniti Extended Warranty

Infiniti’s extended warranty is part of the Infiniti Elite Protection Program®. Unfortunately, unlike other manufacturers, Infiniti doesn’t offer many options for extended warranty coverage. There is only one plan, known as the Infiniti Elite Protection Plan, which can cover up to eight years or 120,000 miles. Infiniti owners can choose between two deductibles. That’s it—not much flexibility compared to its competitors.

Infiniti Extended Warranty Coverage

Infiniti’s extended warranty covers over 1,850 parts. The contract is comprehensive, but it doesn’t cover quite as much as the factory warranty. That said, you can expect coverage on all major systems. See the table below for a closer look.

Vehicle SystemParts Protected
EngineEngine block, heads, and all internal and external parts
TransmissionTransmission cases and all internal and external parts
BrakesAll internal and external parts including the anti-lock brake system (ABS)
ElectricalAll electrical components in the body and engine
Steering and suspensionBoth internal and external parts including power steering and active suspension
Air conditioning and heaterAll internal and external parts including the air compressor, clutch, pulley, seals and valves
Lubrication and coolingAll internal and external parts, plus the radiator
Fuel systemFuel tank and delivery systems, injection sensors and modules, and emissions systems
Advanced driver assistance system
(ADAS)
Includes the ICC system, BSW assembly, camera systems, sonars, and sensors
InfotainmentKey audio, video, and navigation components
Belts and hosesHigh-level coverage for wear-and-tear components
Hybrid partsInverters, converters, generators, motors, battery chargers, and more

While this coverage is quite extensive, you can only get covered repairs done at Infiniti service centers, which has its pros and cons. On one hand, you can be sure that your repairs will be made by an Infiniti-trained technician with genuine Infiniti parts if they’re available.

On the other hand, you won’t have as much flexibility as far as where you can get your vehicle serviced. In some areas, it might be a far drive to the nearest Infiniti service center. Plus, you won’t be able to bring your car to your favorite local repair shop for servicing, since only services performed at authorized Infiniti service centers are covered under the vehicle warranty.

If you have a certified pre-owned (CPO) Infiniti, you can get coverage for up to 8 years/unlimited miles from the in-service date through the Infiniti Elite CPO Wrap plan. The CPO Wrap plan offers the exact same coverage as the standard extended warranty.

Infiniti dealers also sell Certified Select vehicles, which can be a bit older than certified pre-owned models and can also be non-Infiniti brands. You can get an Infiniti Elite CPO Wrap plan for these vehicles, which can cover up to 3 years/36,000 miles from the Certified Select vehicle purchase date.

What’s Not Covered by the Infiniti Extended Warranty?

Infiniti’s extended warranty doesn’t cover any parts not listed in the contract, along with cosmetic items and items that normally wear out with use, like brake pads and hoses. Infiniti also won’t cover any damages that come from:

  • Misuse, like off-roading or street racing
  • Accidents and collisions
  • Acts of nature, like floods and fire
  • Theft and vandalism
  • Lack of maintenance
  • Aftermarket alterations

Infiniti Extended Warranty Benefits

The Infiniti extended warranty comes with a few benefits:

  • Roadside assistance coverage: You get towing services, battery jump-starts, fuel deliveries, lockout assistance, and flat tire assistance.
  • Trip interruption benefits: You’ll be reimbursed up to $500 in total for lodging and food if your car breaks down more than 100 miles from your home. This also includes Infiniti’s reunite service, which covers flatbed towing back to your house if you need to head home before repairs are finished.
  • Car rental reimbursement: This includes rental car and alternative transportation coverage up to $50 per day for five days during repairs for a covered breakdown.
  • Reunite service: This covers shipping your vehicle back to your home if it breaks down while you are traveling. The maximum payout is $500 combined with trip interruption benefits.

Infiniti Extended Warranty Terms and Conditions

While most manufacturers only sell extended warranties during the factory warranty period, you can get an Infiniti Elite plan as long as your car is under nine years old and has less than 100,000 miles.

The Infiniti extended warranty only covers repairs done by Infiniti dealers, so you can’t go to just any mechanic. You can finance a plan within an auto loan if you purchase it when you get your vehicle. You can also set up an interest-free payment plan outside of your loan. Infiniti offers deductible options of $0 or $100.

If you purchase an extended warranty from Infiniti and then decide it was a mistake, you can cancel the warranty for a full refund within 60 days. You can get a prorated refund after that point.

Infiniti Extended Warranty Maintenance Plans

As of 2023, Infiniti provides free maintenance for 3 years/36,000 miles on all new vehicles. You have the option to expand maintenance coverage with a Prepaid Maintenance Agreement (PMA). There are four options which vary in length and coverage. The plan has two names: Premium Care, which is available on brand new vehicles, or Scheduled, which is available on new vehicles of the previous model year.

More Infiniti Protection Products

Infiniti also offers other products for protecting your vehicle over time. These are:

  • Guaranteed Asset Protection (GAP): Covers the difference between your car’s value and the remaining auto loan balance after a total loss
  • Lease Wear & Tear: Covers chips, cracks, dings, and other minor imperfections at your lease end
  • Tire & Wheel Protection: Repairs or replaces tires and wheels after damage from road hazards

  • Theft Protection: Permanently labels the car in multiple places to assist recovery and provides assistance if the vehicle is damaged or lost
  • Value Protect: Pays your dealer up to $10,000 to offset decreased value if you get into an accident and want to trade in the car
  • Combination: Combination plans Platinum and Ultimate Platinum include multiple protection products

Infiniti Extended Warranty Vs. Factory Warranty

If you bought a new Infiniti within the last few years, you’re likely already covered by the manufacturer warranty. All new Infinitis come with free limited warranty coverage, which repairs any defects in materials or workmanship. Below are the details.

Infiniti New Car Warranty

The Infiniti New Vehicle Limited Warranty warranty term is 4 years/60,000 miles. Keep in mind that many people keep their vehicles for well over 150,000 miles, so if you plan on holding on to your car long-term, an extended warranty can help take care of your repair costs.

The main parts of the Infiniti warranty include:

  • Basic coverage: 4 years/60,000 miles
  • Powertrain coverage: 6 years/70,000 miles
  • Corrosion coverage: 7 years/unlimited mileage
  • Roadside assistance: 4 years/unlimited mileage

The basic coverage is a bumper-to-bumper warranty, so all parts of your Infiniti will be covered for the duration of that warranty, with only a few exceptions. After that ends, coverage starts to taper off, but you’ll still have full powertrain coverage for another two years, and corrosion coverage for another three years.

Infiniti Certified Pre-Owned Warranty

Infiniti offers a few types of certified pre-owned vehicles. Each of these get different warranty terms.

Infiniti CPO TypeCPO Warranty

Infiniti Certified Pre-Owned

Vehicles with less than 15,000 miles at the time of sale get a Limited Warranty for 6 years/75,000 miles. Vehicles with mileage between 15,000 and 60,000 get a Limited Warranty for 6 years/unlimited miles. Warranties also cover one year of maintenance.

Infiniti Certified Pre-Owned Select

Vehicles get a 12-month/12,000-mile Limited Warranty from the purchase date and one complimentary maintenance visit.

Certified Pre-Owned Select

Vehicles get a 6-month/6,000-mile Limited Warranty from the purchase date and one $50 maintenance visit.

Infiniti Extended Warranty Cost

Our team received 20 quotes for Infiniti extended warranty plans for a variety of vehicles. Overall, these quotes averaged $799 per year of coverage considering the total cost divided by the term length. The Infiniti average is a bit higher than the industry average of $632. However, this makes sense since Infiniti is a luxury brand.

In general, extended warranties from luxury brands based in Asia like Infiniti and Lexus are cheaper than plans from American brands like Lincoln or European brands like BMW and Audi.

What Our Survey Respondents Say About Infiniti Warranties

In January of 2024, our team surveyed 220 people who had purchased extended warranties from their car’s manufacturer. Out of the total, 12 respondents had purchased Infiniti warranties. Below are a few takeaways from the survey.

How Much Did You Pay for the Extended Warranty?

The most common answer to this question was the price range from $1,000 to $2,000. This suggests customers found cheaper quotes than our team did.

  • Under $1,000: 25%
  • $1,000 to $2,000: 33%
  • $2,000 to $3,000: 17%
  • $3,000 to $4,000: 8%
  • $4,000 to $5,000: 8%
  • Over $5,000: 8%

How Satisfied Are You With Warranty Coverage?

Below are a few positive and negative quotes from the survey:

  • “I love it. I don’t have to worry about unexpected costs for repairs.”
  • “I am very satisfied with it even though I haven’t had to use it yet.”
  • “Seemed a bit overpriced […] But overall I liked the piece of mind.”
  • “I’m somewhat satisfied. It could be a little more inclusive.”

Should You Buy a Infiniti Extended Warranty?

Infiniti vehicles are reliable on average and they have reasonable repair costs. Getting an extended warranty can be worth it for peace of mind, but consider whether you can budget for repairs on your own.

Reliability of Infiniti Vehicles

To judge reliability, our team considers ratings from J.D. Power and RepairPal. These are respected resources in the industry for vehicle repair data. Generally speaking, the more reliable a vehicle is, the less likely an extended warranty will pay out its full value in repair costs.

J.D. Power Reliability Ratings

The J.D. Power 2024 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study℠ ranks auto brands based on reliability. The study polled over 30,000 car owners on the number of problems in the first three years of ownership. Infiniti owners reported an average of 219 problems per 100 vehicles, while the industry average was 190 problems. Infiniti ranked 22nd out of 29 movies. Keep in mind that issues in the first few years of ownership are usually covered by Infiniti’s factory warranty.

RepairPal Reliability Ratings

RepairPal collects repair data on all major automakers. This covers a wide range of components for many car models. Infiniti performs a bit above average with a 3.5-star rating from RepairPal, which ranks the brand 16th out of 32 brands. The brand’s annual average repair cost of $638 is also slightly less than the industry average of $652.

Infiniti Extended Warranty Vs. a Third-Party Warranty

The Infiniti extended warranty isn’t your only option for coverage. Third-party companies like Endurance offer vehicle service contracts that cover similar components and offer benefits like roadside assistance. Below is a quick comparison.

Pros of Infiniti Extended Warranty

  • Covers factory-trained technicians and original manufacturer parts
  • Reasonable cost compared to the industry
  • Multiple benefits like roadside assistance and car rental coverage

Cons of Infiniti Extended Warranty

  • Only one coverage option
  • Only covers repairs at dealerships

Pros of Third-Party Warranty

  • Can choose from three to six plans depending on the provider
  • Plans can cover 200,000 miles or more
  • Covers repairs at any licensed mechanic

Cons of Third-Party Warranty

  • Original manufacturer parts aren’t guaranteed
  • Plans for luxury vehicles can be expensive
  • Customer service varies by provider

Infiniti Extended Warranty: Bottom Line

Infiniti’s extended warranty plan offers good coverage for many parts of your vehicle. However, the plan doesn’t last as long as third-party plans from car warranty companies, and you only have one option for coverage. We recommend checking out both Infiniti’s coverage and extended auto warranty plans from third-party companies that are available for all car brands when you shop.
