An extended warranty can help keep your Jeep on the road (or off it) and performing up to its legendary reputation for long into the future. The Jeep extended warranty from the manufacturer is handled through its parent company Stellantis and its Mopar Vehicle Protection program, along with other brands like Dodge and RAM.

We at the Motor1 team wanted to see how Jeep’s in-house warranty options compare to other manufacturers and the top third-party extended car warranty companies. You’ll find the results of our research in the article that follows.

Jeep Extended Warranty

Mopar® is the official company that administers extended warranty plans for Jeep drivers. Mopar offers four primary Jeep extended VSCs through its Vehicle Protection program: the Maximum Care℠ plan, Added Care and Added Care Plus plans, and the Powertrain Care Plus plan.

What’s Not Covered by the Jeep Extended Warranty?

Even with Maximum Care, Jeep’s highest tier of coverage, there are some things that an extended warranty just doesn’t cover. These include:

  • Routine maintenance services like oil changes and alignments
  • Wear and tear items such as brake pads and rotors
  • Damage to or caused by unauthorized accessories
  • Damage after not performing scheduled maintenance
  • Damage from improper use of the vehicle
  • Damage from a collision or other source that would be covered by a full-coverage car insurance policy

Every warranty plan will have its own list of exclusions. Consult your Jeep extended warranty contract to find the exact exclusions for your plan.

Jeep Roadside Assistance and Other Benefits

Some manufacturers sell roadside assistance and other types of coverage as an additional product, but Jeep includes roadside coverage and other benefits with its warranty contracts. These benefits include:

  • First day rental: Covers up to $35 towards a rental car or taxi for any mechanical or maintenance service appointment. Excludes bodywork.
  • Rental car coverage: Covers up to $35 per day up to $175 in total for a rental vehicle if your Jeep isn’t available due to a covered repair.
  • Roadside assistance: Covers up to $100 per occurrence for emergency roadside services such as towing, tire changes, jumpstarts, fluid and fuel delivery, and lockout services.
  • Trip interruption: Covers up to $1,000 in total for meals, lodging, and car rental expenses following a covered mechanical breakdown more than 100 miles from your home.

Jeep Extended Warranty Terms and Conditions

Below, we’ve provided a quick rundown of some of the key terms and conditions around Mopar warranty plans.

  • Availability: You can purchase a Jeep extended warranty from any dealership while your factory warranty coverage is still valid.
  • Benefits: Jeep warranty plans come with key replacement, trip interruption, rental car, and roadside assistance coverages.
  • Cancellations: You can get a full refund if you cancel your plan within 60 days of purchase. If you cancel after this period, you can receive a prorated refund based on the remaining coverage.
  • Deductible: Jeep offers deductibles of $0, $100 or $200 to choose from.
  • Financing: You can typically roll the cost of a Jeep extended warranty into your vehicle purchase financing.
  • Repairs and maintenance: All labor, repairs, replacements and maintenance covered under plans must be performed at an authorized Jeep service center.
  • Transfers: You must pay the full balance on a Jeep extended warranty in order to transfer it to another party. Once this requirement is met, you can transfer your coverage through a Jeep dealership or Mopar for a $50 fee.

Jeep Extended Warranty Maintenance Plans

You are required to have routine maintenance services performed on the schedule in your Jeep owners manual to keep your warranty coverage valid, but these services are not covered under any extended warranty plan. However, you can purchase coverage for these services with Mopar Vehicle Protection Prepaid Oil Plans.

The details of these plans and what they cover vary based on where you buy coverage from, your vehicle, and other factors. Jeep recommends talking to your local dealership for specifics.

More Jeep Protection Products

In addition to its extended warranty line, Jeep offers a few other protection products that can cover other costs of owning a vehicle.

  • Guaranteed Asset Protection (GAP): Covers the difference between what you owe on a Jeep vehicle and the value paid out from a car insurance company following a total loss.
  • Road hazard tire and wheel: Covers the full cost of repairing or replacing all four wheels and tires damaged by debris, potholes, and other road hazards.
  • Auto appearance: Covers repairs to dents and dings using the Mopar Paintless Dent Repair system.
  • Multicare: Bundles several protection plans such as roadside assistance, wheel and tire coverage, key replacement, and interior/exterior repair from various sources of damage. Not available in all states.

Jeep Extended Warranty Vs. Factory Warranty

Every new Jeep comes with a factory warranty that provides coverage for mechanical repairs in the early stages of its working life. An extended warranty is what you can buy to continue that coverage beyond the original warranty terms. In the sections below, we take a more detailed look at the types of warranties that come with Jeep purchases.

Jeep New Car Warranty

What people refer to as the Jeep factory warranty is actually a collection of several individual warranties. The table below shows the components that make up the new car warranty.

Jeep New Car WarrantyWarranty Length

Basic Coverage Limited Warranty

3 years/36,000 miles

Powertrain Limited Warranty

5 years/60,000 years

Anti-Corrosion Perforation Limited Warranty

All panels: 3 years/unlimited miles

Outer panels: 5 years/100,000 miles

Federal Emissions Warranty

2 years/24,000 miles

Specified components: 8 years/80,000 miles

Jeep Certified Pre-Owned Warranty

Jeep vehicles that meet the company’s certified pre-owned (CPO) criteria come with additional coverage beyond the original factory warranty. Every CPO Jeep comes with seven years or 100,000 miles of powertrain coverage, whichever comes first. These vehicles also receive an additional three months or 3,000 miles of Mopar Maximum Care from the time the factory warranty expires.

How to Tell If Your Jeep Is Still Under Warranty

Your vehicle must still be under its new car warranty or CPO warranty to be eligible for a Jeep extended warranty. If your Jeep has yet to reach the three-year or 36,000-mile mark, it is almost certainly still under its original factory warranty.

However, it doesn’t hurt to confirm. To check your warranty status through Jeep, you’ll have to log in to your account at Jeep.com or create an account if you don’t already have one. In the customer portal, you can register your vehicle identification number (VIN) to your account to check your status.

You can also submit your VIN to one of many third-party sites to check your warranty status. Be aware, however, that these sites may use your VIN and other data in ways you may not be entirely comfortable with.

Jeep Extended Warranty Cost

Should You Buy a Jeep Extended Warranty?

Jeep has average prices for its extended warranty products for the industry. But assessing the value of an extended warranty and by extension, whether or not you should buy one, involves thinking about more than just the raw cost.

You’ll also want to consider how likely you are to need repairs covered under an extended warranty in the first place, as well as the likelihood that the cost of those repairs will come close to or exceed the cost of your coverage. In the sections below, we take a look at both of those factors for Jeep vehicles.

Reliability of Jeep Vehicles

To assess the reliability of auto brands in our study, we turned to J.D. Power and RepairPal for ratings. The two organizations have somewhat different takes on how reliable Jeep vehicles are.

J.D. Power Reliability Ratings

According to the J.D. Power 2024 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study℠, Jeep is exactly average in terms of reliability for the industry. The study judges automakers on how many problems per 100 vehicles are reported in a year. Jeep had 190 problems per 100 vehicles, which is tied with the industry average.

RepairPal Reliability Ratings

RepairPal assesses brand reliability with a few different metrics, including the average number of repairs a vehicle needs in a year and the severity of those repairs. It uses these figures to generate an overall reliability score on a 5.0-point scale.

Cost of Jeep Repairs

RepairPal also features average cost data for common repairs across vehicle makes and models. Jeep repairs, like their overall reliability, are roughly average for the industry. We’ve included a few of these estimates in the table below to give you an idea of the costs of repairs that would be covered under a Jeep extended warranty.

What Our Survey Respondents Say About Jeep Warranties

When our team surveyed 1,000 drivers (over 90 percent of whom had extended warranty coverage), we found that satisfaction with vehicle protection plans is generally high. In our survey, 65 percent of extended warranty owners reported being satisfied with their plans.

Quotes from Our Survey

Here’s what drivers in our survey had to say about their Jeep extended warranties:

  • “It helped cover an engine problem within the first year, so I was very happy about that since I wasn’t out any money.”
  • “Everything I needed anytime has been covered and completely handled!”
  • “It was expensive and I haven’t had to use it yet. I worry that I just wasted the money. But it will be nice to have if I ever need it.”

The majority of respondents had positive experiences with the claims process, but some drivers were surprised to find that the warranty didn’t cover everything.

  • “The process to submit a claim was quick and easy. I felt like they took care of everything from there.”
  • “I submitted a claim for engine problems and was covered under my warranty I purchased with the vehicle.”
  • “Submitted claims [three] different times for [three] different issues and was denied all three times.”

Jeep Extended Warranty Vs. a Third-Party Warranty

Jeep isn’t your only source for extending your factory warranty. You can also buy coverage from an independent warranty provider. Third-party warranty companies offer a few advantages over manufacturers when it comes to vehicle service contracts, as well as some potential downsides to consider. We go over the pros and cons of each in the tables below.

Pros of Jeep Extended Warranty

  • All repairs performed by certified Jeep technicians
  • Includes benefits like roadside assistance and trip interruption
  • Purchase can be rolled into vehicle financing

Cons of Jeep Extended Warranty

  • Must have repairs performed at Jeep service center
  • Only four coverage options available
  • Must purchase plan while original factory warranty or CPO warranty are still valid

Pros of Third-Party Warranty

  • More plan options available
  • Can be purchased online or over the phone
  • Some providers offer more benefits

Cons of Third-Party Warranty

  • Providers can vary in reputability
  • Claims process can be less straightforward
  • Not officially Jeep branded

Jeep Extended Warranty: Bottom Line

Jeep provides a strong offering for extended warranty coverage—even superior, compared to many manufacturers. Even so, when we compared the automaker to independent warranty providers, we found that third-party companies simply offer more advantages.

If having your Jeep serviced exclusively at authorized service centers is important to you, the company’s in-house option may be the right move. For everyone else, you’ll find more options and greater usability with an independent extended car warranty company.

Getting quotes from Jeep and third-party providers is free, so there is no downside to comparing your options. We think you’ll come to the same conclusion we did about where to buy an extended warranty for your Jeep.

Methodology

In an effort to provide accurate and unbiased information to consumers, our expert review team collects data from dozens of extended auto warranty companies to formulate rankings of the best providers. Companies receive a score in each of the following categories, as well as an overall weighted score out of 5.0 stars.

  • Industry Standing: Warranty providers with a history of strong business practices and endorsements from experts receive the highest scores in this category.
  • Coverage: This rating is based on types of extended warranty plans available, coverage terms, and added benefits like roadside assistance.
  • Cost: Our research team reviews sample quotes for a variety of plans and vehicles. Companies with lower prices per year of coverage receive the best scores.
