If your Porsche breaks down, you can expect an expensive repair bill. But can a Porsche extended warranty help? We’ll help you decide if it’s the right option for you by explaining Porsche’s extended warranty options as well as third-party alternatives. Our team has spent over 1,475 hours researching the best extended warranty companies and comparing them based on their reputations, average costs, available coverage, and more to help you make an informed decision.

Porsche Extended Warranty

There are two Porsche extended warranty plan options (called Porsche Vehicle Service Protection plans): Platinum and Powertrain. Both warranties will provide coverage up to 10 years/100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Keep in mind this isn’t an additional 10 years past your factory warranty, but rather, a total of 10 years.

Porsche Extended Warranty Plans

Here’s an overview of each Porsche Vehicle Service Protection plan option:

Plan NameDescription of Coverage

Platinum

This is a comprehensive protection plan that covers all the components in the Powertrain plan while adding climate control, shocks, front and rear suspension, steering, brakes, the fuel system, the electrical system, and high-tech features.

Powertrain

This is a basic powertrain warranty, with coverage for the engine, transmission, and drive axle. One key difference is that Porsche also covers seals and gaskets with this plan, which isn’t common for powertrain warranties.

What’s Not Covered by the Porsche Extended Warranty?

Like all extended warranty plans, Porsche Vehicle Service Protection has some exclusions. Here are a few things that aren’t covered by a Porsche extended warranty:

  • Mechanical breakdowns caused by a collision, vandalism, or weather-related incidents
  • Mechanical breakdowns caused by lack of routine maintenance or preexisting conditions
  • Repair or replacement of electric or hybrid batteries and battery cables

There may be other specific exclusions from your Porsche warranty plan. Your service agreement will list all excluded parts and conditions.

Porsche Extended Warranty Benefits

In addition to the above coverage, your Porsche vehicle service contract will also provide 24-hour roadside assistance, reimbursement up to $250 for towing, and rental car reimbursement ($50 per day) for up to 10 days while your car is being repaired.

Porsche Extended Warranty Terms and Conditions

Those who buy a new Porsche vehicle can purchase either extended warranty option at any time before the expiration of the factory warranty.

You can choose from $100 or $250 deductible options. You can select either a $100 or $250 deductible per claim. Plans with lower deductibles have higher premiums. The $100 option is technically a “disappearing” deductible, meaning if the covered repairs are performed at your selling Porsche dealership, the deductible is waived.

Porsche Extended Warranty Maintenance Plans

After the complimentary service at the 1-year/10,000-mile mark, Porsche gives you the opportunity to add prepaid maintenance services in one-year increments. Here are your Porsche maintenance plan options and what services are included in each:

For Porsche electric vehicles (EVs), the automaker offers the following maintenance plans:

Porsche Maintenance Plan Pricing

The prices of individual Porsche maintenance plans vary according to model, but range from $795 to over $5,000. You can also combine each interval into one 5-year/50,000-mile maintenance plan. The prices for this combined plan range from $6,345 to $10,205.

Pricing for Porsche’s EV maintenance plans is more straightforward, as there’s only one model (the Taycan) to account for. Here are the prices for the automaker’s EV maintenance plans:

More Porsche Protection Products

Porsche features a variety of add-on protections, including the following:

  • Premier Tire & Wheel Protection: Covers tires and wheels damaged by road hazards with no deductible.
  • Dent Protection: Repairs dents up to four inches in diameter (incurred through normal use) with no deductible.
  • Windshield Protection: Unlimited repairs and one replacement of the front windshield if damaged by road debris with no deductible.
  • Key Protection: Replacement of damaged or lost keys with no deductible.
  • Term Protection: This covers a host of wear-and-tear components for up to 6 years or 72,000 miles.
  • Guaranteed Auto Protection: This is Porsche’s version of guaranteed asset protection, or GAP insurance. It helps cover the gap between your car’s value and what you owe on it in the event of a total loss due to an accident, theft, or natural disaster.
  • Lease-End Protection: This plan covers up to $7,500 in wear-and-tear charges at the end of a Porsche lease.
  • Multi-coverage Protection: A combination of the four protections above in one plan.

Porsche Extended Warranty vs. Factory Warranty

Porsche provides factory warranty coverage for 4 years or 50,000 miles, which is pretty standard in the automotive industry. An extended warranty plan from the manufacturer can stretch vehicle protection up to 10 years or 100,000 miles.

Porsche New Car Warranty

Here are the protections you receive when you buy a new Porsche vehicle:

  • 4-year/50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper and powertrain warranty
  • 2-year/unlimited-mile genuine Porsche parts replacement warranty
  • 12-year/unlimited-mile corrosion perforation warranty

Porsche Certified Pre-Owned Warranty

Certified pre-owned (CPO) Porsche vehicles come with warranty coverage that protects most vehicle components for two years or unlimited miles after the expiration of the factory warranty. To become a CPO Porsche, a vehicle must pass a 111-point inspection, be less than 13 years old, and have an odometer reading below 124,000 miles.

Porsche Extended Warranty Cost

Porsche is a high-end auto brand, so it makes sense that its extended warranty plans cost more than the ones offered by most automakers. Below are some quotes we received for Porsche Platinum Vehicle Service Protection plans:

What Our Survey Respondents Say about Porsche Warranties

Before you purchase an extended warranty, it’s helpful to know what customers say about the plan. With that in mind, our team conducted a survey of 100 luxury car owners who had purchased manufacturer extended warranties. There were 15 Porsche owners among the respondents. Here’s how they answered a few key questions about their warranty plans:

How satisfied are you with your warranty coverage?

Here are a few quotes from the Porsche extended warranty owners we surveyed:

  • “I’m very satisfied. In September 2023, when I walked into the store for maintenance and repair, the staff was very enthusiastic and prepared juice and snacks for me. The charge was also very reasonable. The maintenance staff was very professional, and quickly solved the problem for me. I believe they will continue to maintain my car and I will continue to buy the corresponding service!”
  • “I am quite satisfied with the warranty coverage because my car broke down and I contacted the after-sales service to help me quickly.”
  • “The warranty is very well handled I’d say above average compared to most.”

Have you ever submitted a claim? If so, please share your experience.

Here are a couple of quotes from respondents who had submitted a claim with their Porsche extended warranty coverage:

  • “Twice I have filed claims for defective factory parts and the extended warranty has covered the replacement of these parts.”
  • “My vehicle broke down during the warranty period, so I contacted the manufacturer to make a claim and repair it for free.”

How much did you pay for your Porsche extended warranty?

Here’s how much our respondents reported paying for their Porsche warranty plans:

  • One paid between $1,000 and $2,000
  • Two paid between $2,000 and $3,000
  • Seven paid between $3,000 and $4,000
  • Four paid between $4,000 and $5,000
  • One paid more than $5,000

About 73 percent of Porsche owners we surveyed paid between $3,000 and $5,000 for their extended warranty coverage.

Should You Buy a Porsche Extended Warranty?

With above-average repair costs and mixed reliability ratings, it’s easy to make the case that a Porsche extended warranty is a worthwhile investment.

Reliability of Porsche Vehicles

We refer to auto repair estimator site RepairPal and various J.D. Power consumer studies to evaluate the reliability of auto brands. The better the reliability rating, the less likely it is for a vehicle to need expensive repairs in the first few years of ownership.

J.D. Power Reliability Ratings

The J.D. Power 2024 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study℠ measured how many issues drivers face after three years with their vehicles. The average number of problems per 100 vehicles on the road was 190. Porsche came in sixth out of 29 brands with a score of 175.

RepairPal Reliability Ratings

RepairPal offers a less rosy outlook on Porsche reliability. In fact, the site ranks the luxury brand last out of 32 automakers. Here’s a breakdown of how RepairPal rates Porsche in comparison to industry averages:

**Editor’s Note: On July 31, 2024, the Federal Trade Commission announced that CarShield will pay $10 million to settle FTC charges that its advertisements and telemarketing for vehicle service contracts are deceptive and misleading, and that many purchasers found that repairs were not covered. In response, the Motor1 Reviews team reevaluated CarShield’s rating to better reflect its industry standing and transparency with consumers.

What Our Survey Data Says about Buying Third-Party Warranties

In May 2024, our team surveyed 1,000 people who had purchased a vehicle service contract. About two-thirds of respondents bought their plans from an independent provider.

Here’s what third-party warranty customers said about their coverage in our survey:

Who is your extended warranty provider?

Here’s how a few of our top-ranked aftermarket warranty providers were represented in the survey:

  • CarShield: 32.5%
  • Endurance: 8%
  • EasyCare Warranty: 7%
  • Carchex: 6.5%
  • American Dream Auto Protect: 4.1%
  • Omega Auto Care: 3.7%

What level of coverage did you purchase?

About 41 percent of those surveyed bought a bumper-to-bumper vehicle service contract. Nearly a quarter purchased powertrain plans, while about 23 percent went with a mid-level extended warranty.

How much did you pay for your extended warranty?

Of the 609 respondents who pay for their extended warranty on a monthly basis, about 56 percent reported paying between $50 and $100 per month. Of those who paid for their coverage upfront, about 19 percent paid between $1,000 and $1,500 for their plan, while about 51 percent said they paid between $1,500 and $3,500.
